1st Taste of Spring

Good morning folks. Did you have a few rumbles of Thunder last night? We did in Independence! Thunder marks the real beginnings of Spring, and along with that, Severe Weather season.

As last night's storm clouds move out and sunshine starts to filter in, there's a chance that we might actually see a bit of Severe Weather today. Nothing major, so don't panic, but we want to take the time to bring you up to speed so you're not caught off guard. Today's forecast is very subjective to exactly how much the atmosphere warms up, so things could be more or less severe... it just depends.

Since it has been a while (or maybe the first time) that we've used the Storm Prediction Center graphics for Severe Weather Outlooks, we're going to post the Categorical Outlook, Tornado Outlook, Wind Outlook, and Hail Outlook images for today's forecast below.

NOTE: Please keep in mind that there are 5 Categories to help improve the quality of forecast expectations for Severe Weather. Here's the breakdown of how the new Categories work for Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 Outlook forecasts. The terms relate directly to the forecasted chances of seeing particular types of Severe Weather on those days and are as follows:

So now that you have an idea of how the improved Outlook Categories work this year, here's the latest Outlook information from the Storm Prediction Center:

If you have any questions about the new Categories or what any of the information in this post means, please let us know! We'd love to help make things clear so that you get the most out of the information found in our Blog and Social Media pages.

Stay safe out there,
